Munster Reds go top of the IP50 table after victory over Warriors

MAGHERMASON – Munster Reds produced a terrific all-round display to surge to the top of the Rario Inter-Provincial Cup table, after a 115-run win over North West Warriors at Bready Cricket Club.

Liam McCarthy’s maiden five-wicket haul, along with career-best List A figures of 5-16 restricted the Warriors to 191 while chasing 306-8. In an unusual twist of fate, Reds batters Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany both fell on 98 – two runs shy of their centuries.

After losing openers Murray Commins and Alistair Frost cheaply, Campher combined for partnerships with Tyrone Kane, PJ Moor and Delany. When Campher fell on 98 Delany took over, and partnerships with Nathan McGuire and McCarthy followed, before he slapped a full toss to Jared Wilson when on 98, as he went looking for his century. The Reds going on to post 306-8.

In response, the Warriors struggled, and at 32-5 looked in danger of posting the lowest total in IP50 history – 90 all out – as both McCarthy (5-16) and Joshua Manley (2-24) had devastated their top-order.

However their middle-order recovered somewhat as Wilson and Cameron Melly combined to score 85-runs for the sixth wicket. Graham Hume, Carson McCullough, and Ryan Macbeth showed some resistance at the tail, but Ben White mopped that up to seal a comfortable win for the Reds.

It’s all set up nicely with just two games remaining. Northern Knights host Leinster Lightning tomorrow, Tuesday 5 September at Stormont, before the final match on Thursday, 7 September between the Northern Knights and North West Warriors again at Stormont.
