The Ground

Clontarf Cricket Ground, known locally as ‘Castle Avenue’, is located in Dublin City Centre. It is home to Clontarf Cricket Club.

 

A little history

The club was founded in 1876 but didn’t take up residence in Castle Avenue until 1896.

The Castle Avenue ground has played host to numerous international fixtures, including a thrilling draw against Pakistan in 2013. The ground also hosted a Cricket World Cup match in 1999 between the West Indies and Bangladesh, the first One-Day International held at the venue.

There have been eight ODI centuries at Castle Avenue, including four by Irish players – Gary Wilson, Ed Joyce, and Paul Stirling twice. However, the highest ODI score was by West Indies batter John Campbell, when he scored 173 in May 2019.

How to get here
  • By Train: The commuter rail service (DART) stops at Killester Station which is only a 10 minute walk to the ground.
  • By Bus: The Dublin Bus service numbers H1, H2, H3, and H6 leave from Abbey Street Lower in the city centre and take about 25 minutes to arrive at Killester (Dunseverick Road) from where it is only a ten minute walk to the ground.
  • By Taxi: Castle Avenue is a 15-minute taxi ride from Dublin City Centre.

Cricket ireland high performance centre

Opened in 2018, the Cricket Ireland High Performance Centre is based at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus at Abbotstown in Dublin.
