Inclusion Cricket

There are a number of programmes that have been developed for people living with disability or that promote positive ageing.

Cricket Connects

Cricket Connects aims to provide:

  • More People with
  • More Quality Opportunities to be
  • More involved
  • More often

There are two strands to the Cricket Connects project: Cricket Connects Activator Training and Cricket Connects Community.

Cricket Connects is a Cricket Ireland initiative supported by Sport Ireland and the Dormant Accounts Fund, delivered in partnership with the Provincial Unions.

Cricket4All: Cricket Leinster

Cricket4All is a multi-ability, intergenerational programme designed to introduce young people with disabilities and older adults to cricket to encourage their participation in sport.

The benefits for participants are many:

  • Improved physical wellbeing
  • Improved fine motor skills
  • Improved literacy andnumeracy skills
  • Improved communications
  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Develop sporting attitudes and teamwork
  • Provide opportunities for social interaction and friendships

Cricket4All incorporates three activities:

  • Adapted Cricket
  • Table Cricket
  • Walking Cricket

Cricket4All was first introduced as a pilot project by Fingal County Council and Cricket Leinster with support from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Walking Cricket

Did you enjoy playing rounders at school? If so you’ll love a game of Walking Cricket.

Walking Cricket is a very social sport, filled with team spirit and fun.

Walking Cricket is the sport you love, just played at a slower pace – so it’s perfect for people who are older, or less physically able, but who still want to enjoy the thrill of the game. Walking Cricket involves a team of six to eight players (three to four pairs). Everything is walking, including the ‘runs’ and fielding, and a soft ball is also used.

So, whether you’re batting, bowling or fielding, it’s a great form of cardio exercise. Plus it improves both agility and hand-eye coordination.
