DUBAI – Ireland Under-19s Men have been drawn in Group A of the 2024 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, alongside Bangladesh, the USA, and the holders India. India will be looking to win the event for a record sixth time.

The event, scheduled to have taken place in Sri Lanka, was relocated to South Africa last month, after the Sri Lanka Cricket Board’s membership was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to government interference.

In the other groups:

• Group B: England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland
• Group C: Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Namibia
• Group D: Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal

Ireland qualified automatically for the tournament following a tenth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in the West Indies.

The top three sides from each group progress to the Super Six phase of the event, with each team carrying forward the number of points, Wins, NRR that they earned against their fellow super-six qualifying teams. The Super Six will get underway on 30 January. The top two teams from each group in the Super Six stage will then reach to the semi-finals.

It will be the third time that South Africa has hosted the Under-19 World Cup – after previously hosting the event in 1998 and 2020.

The tournament gets underway on 19 January 2024, with final scheduled to take place at Willowmore Park Cricket Stadium in Benoni on Sunday 11 February.

The Ireland squad for the 2024 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is due to be named shortly.
