DUBLIN – Irish international James McCollum will depart for Antigua today to join the Emerging Ireland squad ahead of the two four-day first-class matches against West Indies Academy as a replacement for the injured Adam Rosslee.

Rosslee sustained an injury during the second one-day match on Sunday and will fly home for treatment and rehabilitation.

McCollum, 28, has played six Tests for Ireland, last featuring in the Lord’s Test in June.

Andrew White, Ireland Men’s national selector, said:

It’s unfortunate that Adam has sustained the injury, and we wish him a quick recovery.

In terms of James’ call-up, we considered this opportunity provided two key benefits. Firstly, it will provide James with some quality red-ball cricket after missing a large portion of last home season due to injury. Secondly, James’ presence and professional approach to his game will provide added benefit to a young squad that has had little to no red-ball experience in recent years.

The two upcoming fixtures are:

  • 25-28 November: West Indies Under-23s v Emerging Ireland – 1st 4-day match (CCG; start 10am)
  • 2-5 December: West Indies Under-23s v Emerging Ireland – 2nd 4-day match (CCG; start 10am)

The Emerging Ireland men’s squad is:

Stephen Doheny (capt) (Merrion), Cade Carmichael (Instonians), Murray Commins (The Hills), Matthew Foster (CSNI), Mike Frost (Malahide), Fionn Hand (Clontarf), Gavin Hoey (Pembroke), Matthew Humphreys (Lisburn), Scott Macbeth (Brigade), Tom Mayes (North Down), Liam McCarthy (Railway Union), James McCollum (Waringstown), Tim Tector (YMCA), Morgan Topping (Waringstown), Ben White (Phoenix).

  • Coaching staff:
  • Head Coach: Heinrich Malan (leaves after the 1st match)
  • Head Coach: Pete Johnston (takes over after the 1st match)
  • Assistant Coach: Boyd Rankin
