Getkate half-century as Warriors take down defending champion Reds

Back

The Reds started the match quite well, with their first four batters all getting into double figures. However, the opening partnership between Murray Commins and Brandon Kruger was their only one of note in the innings. The Reds middle-order unfortunately didn’t fire, with PJ Moor, Matt Ford, Tyrone Kane, and Liam McCarthy all dismissed quickly.

Mike Frost battled hard late on and scored a tidy 19 off 31 balls, but the tail-end didn’t offer up much resistance, with Warriors debutants Harry Zimmerman (4-36) and Michael Erlank (3-21) taking seven wickets between them as the Reds were bowled out for 149.

Despite losing fellow opener Nathan Maguire with just the second ball of their innings Ani Chore settled the Warriors down. His 63-run partnership with Getkate proved vital in the relatively low run chase.

When Scott Macbeth departed in the 14th over, in came stand-in skipper Getkate at number five and he bided his time before accelerating in the 25th over.

Once Chore was bowled by Ben White in the 30th overs the Warriors only needed 42 runs to win. Player of the match Getkate then went on to reach his fifty in the 34th over, before combining superbly with Cameron Melly for 42 runs as they comfortably reached their target with 10.5 overs to spare.
