DUBLIN – There were wins for both Typhoons and Scorchers in a thrilling double-header of Evoke Super Series T20 action at Merrion Cricket Club earlier today.
The reigning Super 20 Trophy champion Scorchers had won their opening two matches, but were brought back down to earth with a bang as Mary Waldron and Freya Sargent combined for the Typhoons, while Orla Prendergast and Arlene Kelly starred with the ball as the Dragons put out the Scorchers fire with a dramatic win in the second game of the day.
SCORCHERS V TYPHOONS
A near run-a-ball 23 from Mary Waldron was enough for Typhoons to beat Scorchers in the opening game of a Super Series double-header at Merrion CC.
With the game reduced to 16 overs due to a rain delay in the early part of the day, Typhoons had a reduced target of 67 after Scorchers had earlier posted 80-9 from their full allocation of 20 overs.
With captain Gaby Lewis left out of the opening game, Lara Maritz was the leading run scorer for Scorchers with 26 off 29 balls. Her partnership of 23 with Siúin Woods was their best of the day as Freya Sargent tore into the tail, taking 4-15 in a Player of the Match performance.
In reply, an opening partnership of 25 between Loise Little and Robyn Searle set the Typhoons on their way, and Waldron, along with Sarah Forbes guided the side to a comfortable eight wicket victory with 26 balls remaining.

SCORCHERS V DRAGONS
In the second game of the double-header Dragons took the scalp of two-time double champions Sorchers in a thrilling encounter. Captain Leah Paul hit an excellent 33 as five Dragons batter all made double figures as they posted a competitive 115 all out after 19.2 overs. Gaby Lewis with the pick of the catches in the field, jumping one-handed to remove Jaimie-Lee Strang.
Dragons bowlers struck with just the second ball of the innings, as the returning Orla Prendergast removed the impressive Mary-Anne Musonda for a duck.
Lewis and Annabel Squires did manage to combine for 36 for the second wicket. however once both of those departed inside the tenth over wickets fell with regularity.
Player of the Match Prendergast, along with her fellow international colleague Arlen Kelly took 6-19 between them as they bowled the Scorchers out for 92, with just the single ball remaining, as they gor their first win of the campaign.
