PRETORIA, South Africa – Despite a 56-run partnership between Annabel Squires and Georgina Dempsey, the Ireland U19s Women fell to a seven-wicket defeat to Pakistan in their latest warm-up game ahead of the World Cup.
Having opened the batting, skipper Amy Hunter scored 13 off 15 balls before Ireland lost three wickets inside the powerplay. The middle-overs partnership between Squires and Dempsey – 50 in 58 balls – kept Ireland in the game. A near run-a-ball 35 from top scorer Squires saw Ireland post 89-6 from their 20 overs.
Johanna Loughran stumped opener Shawaal Zulfiqar in the second over, however her opening partner Eyman Fatima went on to hit an unbeaten 58 as Pakistan comfortably reached their target with 4.2 overs remaining.
Ireland will face Rwanda on Wednesday, 11 January in their final warm-up game, at 10am local time (8am Ireland time).
